It is with profound respect that we announce the passing of Grand Master Low Koon Lin, a foundational figure in Malaysian Taekwon‑Do, who departed on December 21, 2024, at the age of 97.
Born on April 13, 1927, in Bentong, Pahang, Malaysia, Grand Master Low’s journey in martial arts began with Judo. In 1962, he witnessed a Taekwon‑Do demonstration in Kuala Lumpur, featuring Grand Master Kim Bok Man, which inspired him to pursue Taekwon‑Do under General Choi Hong Hi, the founder of the discipline. This marked the beginning of his lifelong dedication to Taekwon‑Do.
As General Choi’s first Malaysian student, Grand Master Low played a pivotal role in establishing and promoting Taekwon‑Do in Malaysia. He was instrumental in the formation of the Malaysian Taekwon‑Do Association in 1963 and founded the International Taekwon‑Do Academy in Petaling Jaya in 1966. His commitment to the art spanned over five decades, during which he trained thousands of students and significantly contributed to the global Taekwon‑Do community.
Grand Master Low’s legacy is honored by his students and the broader martial arts community. His unwavering dedication and contributions have left an indelible mark on Taekwon‑Do, inspiring generations of practitioners.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and students during this time. Grand Master Low Koon Lin’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide the Taekwon‑Do community worldwide.
