The 1st Chungju Apple Cup National Taekwondo Championships Concludes with Great Success



 

The 1st Chungju Apple Cup National Taekwondo Championships, hosted by the World Sport Committee (President Seo Hyun-suk), and co-organized by the Chungju City Taekwondo Association (Chairman Lee Chung-hee) and the Chungbuk Sport Committee (President Chung Yong-guk), concluded successfully at the Chungju Hoam Gymnasium under the warm autumn sunlight. The event was proudly supported by Chungju City, the Chungju City Council, and the Chungju City Sports Council.

A National Gathering of Taekwondo Excellence

This inaugural event attracted more than 1,500 athletes from across Korea, competing across four categories:

  • Kyorugi (sparring)
  • Poomsae (forms)
  • Breaking
  • Taekwondo Aerobics

Over 500 parents and supporters filled the venue, creating a vibrant atmosphere of encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Notably, this was the first Taekwondo competition in Korea to incorporate local specialties, with Chungju’s famous apples featured as part of the event’s theme. The creative integration of local identity with martial arts was widely praised, making the Apple Cup a model of sports marketing and cultural promotion.

Distinguished Guests and Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony began at 11:00 a.m. with the strong declaration by Executive Chairman Chung Yong-guk. The ceremony was attended by leading figures in Taekwondo and sports, including:

Messages of Encouragement

In his welcoming remarks, Chairman Lee Chung-hee expressed his joy in hosting the inaugural Chungju Apple Cup in a city rich with history and culture. He extended heartfelt thanks to the athletes, coaches, referees, and officials for their dedication, and pledged to further develop the Apple Cup into a central platform for Taekwondo and Korean sports.

National Assemblyman Lee Jong-bae emphasized the significance of Taekwondo as Korea’s national martial art and expressed hopes that the athletes would continue to train hard, spread Taekwondo worldwide, and bring honor to Korea.

Kim Nak-woo, Chairman of the Chungju City Council, along with Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Assembly members Lee Jung-beom and Lee Jong-gap, promised continued and expanded support for future editions of the Apple Cup.

World Sport Committee President Seo Hyun-suk also shared his reflections, noting the challenges of preparing for a new event within a short timeframe, but expressing gratitude to all the participants and officials who ensured its success. He announced plans to elevate the tournament into an international-level competition from next year, aiming not only to expand its sporting profile but also to contribute to local economic development and community engagement.
