Exciting News for Taekwondo!

Para Taekwondo has been officially confirmed as a medal event for the Chungcheong 2027 FISU World University Games, scheduled for August 2027 in Korea. This historic milestone, finalized during the FISU Executive Committee meeting in Torino, Italy, marks a major step forward for inclusivity and diversity in the Games.

Para Taekwondo athletes will compete for 14 gold medals across 4 Poomsae and 10 Kyorugi divisions, bringing the total number of Taekwondo medal events at the 2027 Games to 38, including the Mixed Team Event. This milestone solidifies Taekwondo’s position as the third-largest sport in the Games’ programme.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue celebrated the decision, calling it a “significant milestone for the global Taekwondo community.”

Taekwondo first joined the FISU World University Games in 2003 and has been a compulsory sport since 2017. The inclusion of Para Taekwondo highlights decades of collaboration between World Taekwondo and FISU to expand the sport’s global footprint.
